When I want to start taking vitamins again I always go to the store or The Health Food Store in Ft. Wayne to get them. But then I get overwhelmed by the choices. What I need and what to add to my daily vitamin that I already take.

Well, Nature Made has made it easier for you. They have created the Vitamin ID, which personalizes vitamins to your lifestyle. Go and take the survey. It is totally free and you don't have to buy from them, even though I think their prices are very reasonable for everything they include. I found it very helpful and saw where I needed to add to the vitamins I am already taking.

Side note here, I have not been paid by them to review this. I simply came across the website and thought I would share it with you.

Chili Corn Dog Pie

This is a super easy recipe that my kids loved!

(2) Cans Chili with beans (or homemade 4 cups)
(6-8) Hot Dogs, sliced in half lengthwise
(1-2) boxes corn muffin mix or (1) Cup self-rising Cornmeal mix like Aunt Jemima

If using Jiffy mix follow directions on the box for mixing it. If using Cornmeal mix, mix with 1/2 cup milk 1 large egg & 2 TBL Vegetable Oil.

(1) Cup Cheddar Cheese

1. Heat Oven to 400F.

2. Pour the chili in an 11x7 (2-quart) glass or ceramic baking dish. Then arrange the hot dogs on top of the chili.

3. Pour cornmeal mix, from above, evenly over the hot dogs. It is easier if you start in the middle and work out. Top with cheese.

4. Bake the casserole until the corn bread topping is lightly browned and firm with the chili bubbling around edges. Approximately 25-30minutes. Cool 5 minutes before serving.

Serves 6-8.

Serve these with ketchup, mustard, onion or topping you might want on a chili dog.

I actually had RR's to spend and I split this into two transactions.

I Hit The Mother Load

As I began to start canning this year I realized that I would not have nearly enough jars to do what I had planned on doing. So, I started asking around to see if anyone had canning jars they were not using anymore. Well, my aunt told me she had given all of hers away years ago. So I started scouring garage sales and came up with about 24. Not so great! So I did buy some at Kroger and Rural King. I still was not happy with the amount I had.

Well, I then started talking with my cousin and he informed me that his mom had left some in her house that she sold to the hospital. What? She told me she gave all of those away! Come to find out after making several phone calls to the hospital she had indeed left several boxes of jars in her basement and the hospital was more than willing to let me come and pick them up. My aunt had simply forgot about them...

So here are some pictures of the many, many cans that recovered from her basement. I have already washed 4 cases of the quart size and there are many, many more. I will update you to the total when I finish washing them.

Save Money By Canning

Another great way to save money is to start canning. If you don't have a garden it still can save you money if you buy the produce while it still in season.

This is what I have done in the last two days.

(8) pints of Bread & Butter pickles, I used cucumbers from my garden.
(5) Pints of diced tomatoes, from the garden
(4) pints of Blueberry Syrup
(5) Pints of Blueberry Jam

I purchased the Blueberries from the Shipshewana flea market for $1.70/# which figured to be just over .85/ pint. Which is cheaper than you can get them anywhere around here. The other positive is I didn't have to pick them, so it also saves me time.
Another great thing about canning is that you can give these items as gifts at Christmas and you'll have no rushing around at Christmas trying to find gifts.

I will say you do start off spending a little more out of pocket but the investment in the jars will be well worth it. Also, they have had coupons for the jars in the paper so you can also save on those.

I bought some of my pints at garage sales and I bought some at Rural King on sale for $6.49 - the $1.50 MQ = .42/jar. If you put stuff from your garden in them then you only have the jar price and that is cheaper than any canned veggies right now!

I have also recently canned chicken and potatoes that I picked up at Kroger for almost nothing.

If you haven't canned before please consider doing it to help you cut your budget.

(Hint: If you use the package of Mrs. Wags Bread & Butter Pickles, I reccommend NOT packing your cucmbers first as the directions indicate. I would add the cucmbers to the liquid and then put into jars. You will use less jars and have more pickles per jar. As you can see in my photo the cukes shrink after adding the hot liquid and causes them to floatwith extra room.)

Unexpected Plans

Sorry for not being here the last couple of days, but on Tuesday I ended up at Cedar Point! It was a great surprise offered by Lake James Christian Assembly. Well, after going I was unable to function for two days...for normal adults you would probably just drag the next day, but with the fibromyalgia it takes me longer to recover.
I had a great time with the kids and some friends that I don't get time to talk with. The best part about going was the weather, it was absolutely beautiful! It did rain, but only for about an hour and a half then it was wonderful! WE ate for an hour of that so it wasn't bad at all!
Well, I am going to try and get ad match-ups for Meijer tomorrow or late tonight. I also am planning on still trying to get match-ups for Kroger even if we do not have one in our town. We still have one close enough to us that is the deals are good it would be worth the run.
Thanks for being patient with me this summer as with last summer it gets hectic around here!
As for coupon previews it doesn't appear to be a great week, but you never know. (Mom there will be Purex Q's coming this week :-))

What Happened To July?

I feel as if time has moved so fast lately because I have been extremely busy. Of course as you know my in-laws visited at the end of June then again on July 4th weekend. I love having guest however, I enjoy them more when it's one family at a time not three!
Next up was the 4-H fair. Both of the kids did great on their projects and received all blue ribbons. I will try and post pictures of the projects later.
In between all of this we continued with softball. Morgan made the travelling team and they ended up winning the Northern State Tourney and going to Kentucky. They only one the first game which was against the Southern Indiana State Champs. So her team (Angola Kids League) is officially the "State Champs".
That brings me to this week...and I have done some shopping and "had" some pictures to post, but my daughter deleted them thinking I already downloaded them.
I went to Kroger which is closing in our town and is currently running 25% off everything. I bought mostly meat! I still had several Tyson q's to use and I bought some ground meat that was already reduced so it was very cheap! I canned most of the chicken tonight. I have never canned meat before, but after talking with a couple of friends I decided to give it a whirl since I am short on freezer space.

Today I made it into Meijer and picked up 11 items and here is the picture of what I got.

However, CVS & Walgreen's are firing up for back to school and are running some awesome deals. I intend on trying to hit both of them early this week and maybe a second trip to Walgreen's mid week to roll some RR's.

I'm glad to be back and hope to get back on schedule before school starts.

Yes, I had 217 e-mails waiting in my inbox when I got back form vacation. Actually that was only my folder that did not include all of my sub-folders. Well, I am glad to have them read and deleted!
While I was in PA I did go into a store once and got to grab some great coupons wile I helped my sister-in-law shop for graduation food. Wow, I really could not live with the prices where she lives. So I thought I would share with you one of the gifts I made for my niece for her graduation gift. I made her this cover-up. I am not sure what the bathroom situation is yet, but some colleges have to walk through the halls to get to the bathroom.

I seen this on Sewing with Nancy, and decided to try it. I will be doing the next one different. But, since I waited to the last minute to make this I didn't have time to change it. I still think it turned out pretty decent.

Sorry, for not posting lately. We have been very busy the last couple of days running to graduations and softball.
I will also be away for the rest of the week as we are going away to PA. My husband has been laid off for the week so we thought we would take a run to his brothers house in PA. My niece will also be graduating this weekend so it has fallen at a good time. If there is ever a good time to be laid off.

A heads up on coupons, Cellfire has updated their coupons as well as Coupons.com and Kraft Foods. I hope you get some great deals while I am gone! I will have a limited shopping area where I am going :-(

Softball Has Started

Tonight we had a double header due to the fact that Tuesday's game got rained out. We lost this makes three losses. Not a great start! Tonight Morgan got to play second, center field, catch and pitch. I only have pics of her playing second and up to bat. It got very cold fast so I sat in the van for the second game. Busy Weekend

This weekend was very busy here. Not only was it a holiday weekend, which means tons of traffic at the lake , but it was was also our city-wide garage/yard sales.

I have to say that this was a great year for them. The weather was great as well as the merchandise. In years past I have been disappointed with the quality of the sales, but this year there were more good sales than bad.

Then to top it off Monday Goodwill had 50% off store wide. I have to say I really over spent this week-end, but I got some great deals. Now I just have to buckle down on my grocery budget to squeeze out a little more cash to cover for my spending spree.
Here are just a few of the great deals I found:

I found this yarn at Goodwill...I was so happy just to find some yarn let alone several matching skeins with the same dye lot. There are 23 skeins total and I paid only $6 for all of it.

Vintage books for only .25ea, "The Diadem" book is from 1867.

Cast Iron skillet $1.50 quilted table runner $2.
Skillet needs seasoned but in good shape other wise. Some people are just clueless on how to take care of them so they would rather sell them. I would rather have a cast iron skillet any day over a non-stick pan. You'll never get the same results frying potatoes with a non-stick pan as you do with a cast iron skillet.

Vintage hand towels and small square table cloth .20ea. I love vintage hand towels and table cloths but I don't like to pay a lot for them. It is also hard to find them without stains on them. This table cloth does have a couple of small stains, but for .20 I thought it was worth it.

Now that the holiday is over we start softball. I really am not looking forward to this year at all. Tonight is our first game if we don't get rained out. Wish us good luck.

Continuing with the Heloise from A-Z book here are a couple of great hints on apples.

Freezing Excess - Peel, core, and slice. Sprinkle with lemon juice or ascorbic acid to keep them from turning brown. Store in freezer containers or plastic freezer bags in specific use quantities like one, two, or three-cup packs so they'll be ready for recipes.

Storage - Apples give off ethylene gas and will make carrots bitter if stored in the same crisper drawer.

I am the type of person that reads about 4-5 books at one time and in between books I have been reading Heloise From A-Z, (AKA: Hints From Heloise). It is chocked full of simple ways to do household task. Some of these ideas I have been implementing for several years, however some ideas are new to me.
I thought I would start sharing some of these great ideas with my readers. I will be starting with the letter A.

Todays hint:
Ants, Extermination: Sprinkle boric acid or Borax powder along the ant trails and entrances. Keep crumbs vacuumed and any other "ant" treats wiped up so you don't attract more.

Ants, In and Outside Pet Feeding Dish: Make a moat! Partially fill a shallow dish with water and place the pet's food dish in the center of eat.

I thought both of these would be great for today since we are starting to get into the warmer months and that is typically when we start seeing the little critters in the house more. At least here in the north.
I suggest buying the book or simply write these tips on 5x7 index cards and make a reference library of your own.

Mom and I went out garage saling yesterday and these are some of my favorite finds.

Box of vintage rick-rack $1, Knitting needles $2, Clay Vase .50, scoop .50, The Story of Peter Rabbit .25, Stocking made from quilt piece .50.

I also picked up this iron plant stand for $3! What a steal!

One other item I picked up was a Bunn Coffee maker, the kind that most churches or small restaurants have, for only $1! They said it was broke and needed a part. My hubby cleaned it this morning and it works great!

Why I DOn't Shop @ Aldi

I have had several people ask me, "Why don't you just shop at Aldi if you are trying to save money?" Well, this is why I don't shop at Aldi.
I got everything you see in this picture for $8.67. This was my third trip to Meijer this week. Now why would I shop at Aldi? However, I will tell you that I do sometimes pick up my fruit and veggies in there if they are running sales on them, because a lot of times those items are cheaper there than other places.

I had $10 in RR's to spend at Walgreen's today. I really wanted the Iceland Fish Oil that are free after RR's, however they didn't get any on the truck, so I got some other needed items.
I picked up some long envelopes clearance @ $1.49, (3) small clear dishes @ 3/$1(for dessert, only 2 shown), (2) 1/2 gallons milk reduced to .60ea, (1) gallon milk reduced to .99, and (2) packages of Nutter Butter cookies @ 3.50ea. My total came to $11.85. I used the (2) $5 RR's and pd $1.85 OOP.
Plus I received a $3 RR, for buying (2) Nabisco cookies and (1) gallon milk. I was going to see if only the cookies would trigger the deal like in the past, but I found the milk marked down so I am not sure if only the cookies by themselves will trigger it. If you have and it works let me know.

Fabric Finds @ Wal-Mart

I found some great deals on fabric @ Wal-Mart. The purple was a remnant so it was 20% off and the others were clearance fins. Don't worry I am not planning on using them together! They look really bad all together.
I was actually the mostly excited about the white & black fabric because this weekend I found some great patterns at a garage sale for .25ea. I am planning on doing this pattern with the white & black material. It is a poly-blend so I think it should work well.

These are the other patterns I picked up.

The other fabrics will be used on aprons or quilt blocks.

Wednesday In Ft. Wayne

Today after Piano lessons the kids, my Mom and I all headed down to Ft. Wayne. Which is about 45-1 hr depending on where we go.
1st Stop:
I picked up this great chair from a fellow Freecycler. Note, if you haven't joined your local Freecycle group JOIN! Google search for the group near you, it is well worth it. I have been able to get rid of unused items we can no longer use and I have also been able to pick up a lot of great items that I can enjoy! Freecycle has been set up for people to recycle items so they will not be put into the landfill.

I have an obsession with old/antique chairs, so when I saw this posted I jump on it. I really thought I might not have responded fast enough, but I did and I picked it up in Ft. Wayne today.

BTW- I belong to (3) groups, Ft. Wayne, Angola-Hudson, & Coldwater MI. However, Ft. Wayne Freecyle is by far the best group of people. Very nice and easy to work with.

2nd Stop:
JC Penney, Spencer has been looking for shoes for quite some time now. I swear he is worse than a girl when it comes to shoes. He did find a pair,out of my price range of course, so Grandma kicked in the extra $. Grandma's/Mom's are great about that + she had a $10 off coupon which helped.

3rd Stop:
Target, where I picked up these Fiber One bars & Fiber One Pastries (AKA-Pop Tarts).
Target is running a promo this week buy 4 Fiber One products and get a $5 gift card.

Kentucky Fired Chicken! So we met up with John after he got off work and used our FREE meal coupons. If you were fortunate enough to print these off then I think you will agree with me that this was a great meal! I reall, really liked this chicken. It also seemed to have more meat than their original recip crispy chicken, which I am also a big fan of.
I was very disappointed I forgot my camera, because I wanted to post a picture of the KFC. It was so packed, lots of people were using their coupons. The one we chose to go to was on Dupont @ Coldwater Crossing. I highly recommend them! They were so friendly and their service was very fast, even though they were packed. Plus it was clean, which is one of my pet peeves with restaurants.

So I finally made it into Staples for the great deal on paper, which is $1/pk limit 2 per household. While I was there I also picked up the FAR (free after rebate) Casio Label maker, FAR Ghirardelli Chocolate Luxe and Free Bic Pens after $1 IP. The IP is no longer available, but in case you see it again on Coupons.com or Smartsouce always print it. It usually means FREE pens somewhere.

If you have a Staples near you go in this week and snag some great FREE deals. You'll have some out of pocket for now, but Staples is very good at getting your money to you in a timely fashion.

My Version Of Bakerella's Cupcake Bites

I found this great neat recipe for Cupcake Bites/Pops @ Bakerella. After I found it I just needed a reason to make them. Morgan came home after her Bible study last Monday at told me she had to bring snacks. Well, I was so excited, I am not sure she was, but I was, because that meant now I had a reason to try my hand at these neat little cupcakes.
I did not use chocolate bark, instead I used chocolate, because I had plenty of it. Unfortunately this did not work so well, next time for sure I will try the bark. I think the chocolate doesn't set up as well as teh bark would have. Also, my cake was very moist and I think it posed a problem in the long run.
However, this was my first attempt at them and I usually learn from my mistakes. I also have an idea to use buckeye filling (peanut butter & powdered sugar) in them next time.
These were the best of the bunch. The others turned out not so pretty, perfectly edible but not pretty!
Hopefully the next batch will be much improved!

I made it into Walgreens last night and picked up several of the Freebies this week. Unfortunately they were out of the Ecotrin, which would have been a money maker with Q.

Anyway this is what I got:
(1) Bayer Contour Meter @ $14.99 - $14.99 MQ = FREE + $5 RR

I split this up into two transactions, the first one is when I found out that they have changed it so you have to have the same # of items per # of coupons. In the past you could give the RR's then give them the MQ's and you would have no problems. However, now they have updated their computers to be smarter! Now you must have the same number of items as you do Q's. That is why I bought the (2) napkin rings. You could also buy seeds if you want to buy something cheap.
So after both transactions I ended up with $17.90 OOP and $24 in RR's to roll into other deals. Just remember when rolling RR's, you can not use a RR on the same deal or you will not get another one. Example: When I go to buy more Nivea I can not use a Nivea RR, but I can use one from the Bayer,Sierra Mist, Contour or Rembrant. I have forgot sometimes and realised it too late. So learn from my mistakes!

Side note here---The Nivea smells SOOO yummy!

Walgreens Freebies

As many of you know right now at Walgreens the Mento's gum is 2/$2. I had a friend give me coupons for all this gum plus when I was there I found these Soliels marked down to $1.79! YEAH!!! Mom got a couple also. I also found these shark bites mints which were not free but cheap .25. So my total was $2.80, ($2.30 was tax!).

While were in Ft. Wayne we stopped by one of the Kroger's on Dupont to see if they carried this dog food, "Freshpet Select". I received a Catalina for it here in Angola, but they stopped carrying it. I kept it for the next time I was in Ft. Wayne. It was good for a Free product up to $3.99. Plus the T.P. was free so I tax for these items. Which was only .26!

Two More Trips To K-Mart

I was so happy the coupons I ordered came in just in time so Mom & I could take a run to Ft. Wayne to pick up some items at K-Mart. I forgot my $5/$50 coupon but did pretty good considering. For the first trip I paid $19.87. I did have to do 2 separate transactions so I could get more of the Wholesome Goodness for .10/3, which is a steal!

This trip was the trip we did on Saturday. I brought my $5/50 coupon and did much better! The shoes were on clearance for $5 and the towel was $2.99 and I am planning to make something with it so that I will show you when it's complete!

Some of the items are hard to see in the photo, I am sorry about that! The total for these two transactions was $13.41. The best thing about it is my cat was out of soft cat food and now he will be set for at least 6 months now! He is getting older and does a lot better with soft food, so we give him both, simply because he likes food in his bowl 24/7.

Oh, and isn't that K-Mart bag the cutest! It was $1.49 and I picked it up with Fridays trip. It is much bigger than the regular grocery bags.

Can't wait for the next doubles!!

It's That Time Of Year Again

Well, this is the time of the year when I start looking into what curriculum I will be using next year for school. I will be using Saxon for Math, which we have been using for the past three years now, but I am really trying to find an all inclusive curriculum that will not cost me a fortune.
There are several companies out there that offer what I like, but I simply can not afford them. Also, what I buy for Spencer, I usually can't use for Morgan. They have completely two different learning styles.
Spencer, my oldest is so hard to get motivated. He hates everything! Morgan on the other hand just does her work and I really can give her anything and she will do it even if she hates it.
So, I have been looking over "Blessed Is The Man" for Spencer. It is a four year Unit Study based on Psalm 1, and the best part is it is affordable. I really am torn about this. I reviewed it online and I really think it is great and it covers everything except Math and some Science. I also like the fact that it is directed towards the student and I have minimal input, beside grading papers and some help directing him towards Units.
I definitely am asking for prayers to help guide me so I can make a decision. I want to do what is best for my son and I want him to enjoy the work he is doing. I also want him to enjoy learning as he grows closer to God.
If anyone has used this curriculum with an A.D.D. child I would love to hear your opinion of it, or if you know of any other curriculum that I may be interested in.

K-Mart Doubles - My Trip

I went to K-Mart today to get it over with and I found some great deals along with a GREAT BIG PAIN! I might have known this last time, but I forgot that they will only double (4) like coupons. So when they totalled my order and it came to $27.98 I about hurt someone...just joking.

I knew something was wrong, so I immediately asked the guy to please let me look over the q's and the receipt. So I paid the $27.98 and then stepped to the service desk. That is when the service desk lady informed me that they only double (4) of the same q. So I then told her I didn't want the extra items, which totalled $26.69 w/o q's.

It turned into a nightmare, because they really didn't know how to void the whole transaction or give me my money back. The first thing they did was to try to deduct my q's and not give them back to me. (Never allow them to keep your q's if they deduct them from your money back.) I then told her nicely that I either needed my q's or she needed to give me a full refund for the items. Her and another lady discussed this then decided I was right and they would just give me my money back. Keep in mind I was standing there 45 minutes, while they were trying to figure this all out.

Well, by the time it was all said and done I spent $11.29 for all of this stuff. I should have spent less but after standing there 45 minutes I wasn't thinking straight. So I told her I wanted to rebuy the four boxes of cereal that I couldn't get earlier, with the doubled q's. Which in turn essentially cost me $6 when if I was thinking they should have only cost me $2. DUH! Well, I will be going back this week and getting more cereal and possibly more cat food.

Whiskas cat food ends up $1.12 after the doubled $2 MQ.

Wholesome Goodness Cat Food ends up .10/3! Can't beat that. My cat is getting old and does a lot better with soft food, even though I give him both soft and hard food.

As I have said before, you will make mistakes when you are new and old to couponing. Just don't give up and stick to it. Still after making mistakes it is still cheaper than paying normal prices, wouldn't you agree?!

I did two transactions so I could get the milk free, because it is limit one deal per transaction. I am listing this all as one though just for simplicity.

Of course I have more coupons to go back, but I will wait a few days until we can fit more milk in the frig or freezer.

FREE Toilet Paper!

I was very bummed as a lot of you were when I discovered that Krogers were not carrying the 4pk of Cottonelle T.P. any longer because that meant the end of FREE or cheap T.P.

Well, it looks as if I may not need to fret any longer, well, at least not for another month or so. I was looking on The Coupon Clippers to look at this weeks coupons and I was extremely excited to see that there will be a coupon for Angel Soft 4pk or larger valued at .50 cents! This is great news for me and maybe you too! I know my Kroger has their 4pks for $1.28 (a little more than cottonelle @ .99) so for me after it is tripled it will be FREE!!!! And if your Kroger doubles it will only be .28! This is great I hope they continue to print these coupons for the 4pk. Maybe if we all cross our fingers it will happen :-)

If you don't get the coupons in your paper this week you can always pick them up from The Coupon Clippers for .10 each.
